HRPO COILS - Frequently Asked Questions

HRPO stands for Hot Rolled Pickled and Oiled steel. It is hot rolled steel that undergoes a pickling process to remove surface scale and rust, followed by an oil coating to protect it from corrosion during storage and transportation. HRPO steel provides a cleaner surface than standard hot rolled steel, making it ideal for fabrication, welding, painting, and precision manufacturing applications.

An HR (Hot Rolled) steel coil is produced by rolling steel at high temperatures, typically above 900°C. This process makes the steel easier to shape and form while offering excellent strength and durability. HR steel coils are widely used in construction, automotive components, pipes, structural sections, heavy machinery, shipbuilding, and general engineering applications due to their cost-effectiveness and reliable performance.

The chemical composition of HRPO steel depends on the steel grade and industry standards, but it generally contains:

  • Carbon (C): 0.05–0.25%
  • Manganese (Mn): 0.30–1.50%
  • Silicon (Si): Up to 0.50%
  • Phosphorus (P): Maximum 0.04%
  • Sulfur (S): Maximum 0.05%
  • Iron (Fe): Balance

The exact composition varies depending on the required mechanical properties and the applicable standards such as ASTM, IS, EN, or JIS.

CRC (Cold Rolled Coil) and HRC (Hot Rolled Coil) are two commonly used steel products with different manufacturing processes and applications.

  • HRC (Hot Rolled Coil): Manufactured by rolling steel at high temperatures. It is stronger for structural applications, has a rougher surface finish, and is commonly used in construction, pipelines, automotive chassis, and industrial equipment.
  • CRC (Cold Rolled Coil): Produced by further processing hot rolled steel at room temperature. It offers a smoother surface finish, tighter dimensional tolerances, and better appearance, making it suitable for appliances, furniture, automotive body panels, and precision engineering components.

Both products are selected based on the application's strength, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy requirements.
